INREAL’s new development: an educational centre for children in Pavilniai Regional Park

2019-07-03

3 July 2019, Vilnius. INREAL Group has completed the reconstruction of the office building located at A. Kojelavičiaus 1 in Vilnius. The reconstructed A+ Energy Class 1,420 sq. m building stands on the territory of Multiflora, a plant centre and field floriculture testing station that spans an area of more than 7 hectares within Pavilniai Regional Park. It is earmarked to house a children’s educational centre and the Diemedis art studio. The total investment in the reconstruction was EUR 1.9 million.

‘It is nice that a modern space for the education of children has been produced on the initiative of a private investor and the Diemedis art studio. As Vilnius is growing, we have the ambition to raise the quality of education in the region, which requires the concerted efforts of both the municipality and the educational establishments. I believe that this cosy space will be conductive to creativity, allowing free and responsible personalities to grow and develop,’ said Remigijus Šimašius, Mayor of Vilnius.

‘The idea to integrate a children’s educational establishment into the Plant Centre stemmed from conversations about the young generation and how it is growing further apart from nature. This idea organically fit into the development strategy of INREAL Group, which is to design special projects in unique locations,’ said Gediminas Pruskus, CEO of INREAL Group.

The building has been awarded an A+ Energy Class rating, while its airtightness conforms to A++ parameters. Geothermal heating or cooling, depending on the season, and a high-efficiency heat-recovery ventilation system creates a comfortable microclimate inside. The cloakroom has heated walls for the effective drying of garments. The tall and vast windows of the building expand the space inside the premises with natural vistas.

‘Children who spend time here will really know that tulips, strawberries and cabbages do not grow on the store shelves. They will not only feel the earth under their feet, but also between their little fingers,’ said Virgilijus Pupeikis, Director of Diemedis. The building has been designed to have courtyards with gardens where the children can grow and look after their own plants. As many as 182 agreements with the families of future students have been concluded so far. Of these, 86 involve pre-schoolers, and the rest are school students in Grades 1 through 5.

Considering the location of the lot in the regional park and the nearby Ancučiai and Pūčkoriai landscape reservations, a plan to reconstruct the building in the semblance of a ‘homestead’ was chosen. ‘Single-storied, squat and elongated structures with spanning roofs have been tailored to the surroundings and joined together to form courtyards, which is an inherent attribute of the ethnic homestead,’ said Marius Morkūnas, Architect at MB Kūnas. According to him, the decorations on the canopy of the building reveal detailed beauty and a balance between things that are small and large.

The building has been furnished with high-quality, ecological and natural materials, in conformity with the highest environmental standards.
