2017-10-17

October 17, 2017. Klaipėda. Today the authenticity proclaiming metal memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of the project “Dangės Krantinės” developed by INREAL. This symbol and certificate are awarded to the buildings with authentic restoration, having preserved their unique historical features by adapting them to a new life. On this occasion, the speakers of the event Vytautas Grubliauskas, Klaipėda City Mayor, Diana Varnaitė , the Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, as well as Mindaugas Statulevičius, the Director of the Lithuanian Real Estate Development Association, emphasized the importance of the project “Dangės Krantinės” to the history of the port city, its heritage and the culture of sustainable development, which creates added value for the real estate.

“Klaipėda may be proud of its exceptionally cosy old town, reminiscent of the rich history of the city. Thus we feel gratified that the entrepreneurs investing into the heart of Klaipėda perceive the importance and sensitivity of the historical part of the city and seek to preserve the authentic and valuable objects. The creation in special places needs special solutions, meanwhile the implementation of such projects is a proof that it is truly possible to create modern quality with due respect to the historical heritage”, – stated Vytautas Grubliauskas, Klaipėda City Mayor.

I am pleased for this special opportunity to congratulate INREAL team, as well as the entire Klaipėda city, how the multipurpose complex on the quay of the river Dangė – the historical salt warehouses reconstructed by INREAL – actualizes the historical and cultural identity of Klaipėda city enriching the citizens with the characteristic self-esteem. Since the very beginning this project has been developed focusing on the cultural heritage and high professional knowledge. The project “Dangės Krantinės” is a perfect example of authentic approach to the cultural heritage and its development”, – spoke Diana Varnaitė, the Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.

The project “Dangės Krantinės” is an interesting, valuable and qualitative revival of Klaipėda city old town and a resurrection of its history for living. It contributes to the creation of the face of Klaipėda and the return of people to the city centre”, – highlighted Mindaugas Statulevičius, the Director of the Lithuanian Real Estate Development Association.

According to Gediminas Pruskus, the Director of INREAL, “Dangės Krantinės” has become a particular challenge even for the company with the motto “unique projects in exclusive locations”. “Taking into account the very beginning of territory development, the whole project has taken more than a decade, and this is a very long time. Therefore, we are happy that such projects and sustainable development are appreciated at the national as well as the European level – this is a motivation for businesses to make meaningful investments and create added value for the society”, – stated G. Pruskus.

Dr. Raimonda Nabažaitė, the lecturer of Klaipėda University and the architect, attended the event and told about the history of this territory, which is one of the oldest ones in the port city, and knowledge on Klaipėda city and its citizens gathered during archaeological investigations.

About “Dangės Krantinės”
“Dangės Krantinės” developed by INREAL is one of the projects awarded the certificate of Authenticity in Klaipėda old town (Turgaus Str. 37A) – restored-reconstructed historical warehouses on the quay of the river Dangė. In 16-17th century, there were two churches for German and Lithuanian communities. One of them was demolished and the other was relocated as a result of strategic defence considerations. Over time the defensive walls have lost their importance and this area was gradually passed on to the initiatives of entrepreneurial townspeople. The sea salt warehouses were replaced by herring sorting warehouses; after the World War II a confectionery factory was established there. The confectionery factory preserved its old warehouse – all the old wooden supporting structures, dating back to the 18-19th century, were left intact. The building was bricked with red clay bricks, which were removed during the conversion in 2017 in order to uncover the elements of fachwerk architecture. The structures of the internal wooden construction frames were restored during the restoration-reconstruction of the building. Instead of the red brick shell that has no value, the outer walls were decorated with handmade clinker tile finish and wooden fachwerks typical to the port city’s architecture restored based on the preserved fragments and analogues. The roof is covered with clay tiles. The total value of Turgaus Str. 37 and 37A territory expansion is 3 million EUR. INREAL was awarded as the National winner of the European Business Awards for the project “Danės Užutėkis” (2015) and the project “Dangės Krantinės” (2016).
